Innovation Tracks is an initiative of the UPRM E-Ship Network. The purpose of this initiative is to curricular sequences or Tracks as we call them, in specific areas to complement and amplify the academic preparation of a Bachelor’s degree or for any person looking to learn and start their own innovation-driven business. Our main goal is to provide a guide to the community as of how to become a specialist in a specific area of interest. As students embark in this journey, faculty and mentors are available to help achieve their full potential. The tracks that are currently available are shown below.

To obtain an Innovation Tracks certificate, you must fulfill the following requirements:

Liquid Based Consumer Products

Inks, paints, soaps, and cosmetics are excellent examples of products developed by scientists and engineers with expertise in soft materials. The Innovation Track on Liquid-Based Consumer Products helps students cultivate ideas for new products based on soft materials. Product specifications and usage is validated using user-centered design and consumer behavior methodologies.

The medical device innovation track prepares the next generation of engineers to revolutionize in this field. It will enhance the development of an entrepreneurial and business mindset customized to consider the challenges of this field (e.g. risks on human life, strict government regulations, etcetera). Medical device development is costly and complex; therefore, objectives of this track include learning by implementing the design process into real problems.

Digital Media

Digital media are transforming communication in the 21st century, to the extent that digital literacy is becoming essential for the contemporary and future job market. This track is designed to enhance and certify your digital literacy skills through a series of courses that address programming, code literacy, digital arts and culture, digital rhetoric, and creative productions in digital media.

The courses in this track provide an opportunity to learn and apply basic filmmaking skills that can be used in the creation of a variety of different kinds of film and video products. These products include fiction films, documentaries, music videos, educational films, promotional films and advertising, web videos, and others. The skills taught in the courses can be used to improve the quality of videos made for any purpose. They are also skills that anyone who wants to become a filmmaker needs to learn.
